Nine students went to Good Shepherd Catholic School and the rest Linscott Charter School today.   This will repeat tomorrow as well.
I’ll report on nine students who were divided into 4 pairs plus one at GSC today.

This is a preschool class for 2 to 3 year olds.  The children were all friendly and got along well with these Bunkyo students during snack time.  They also had fun playing outside together.

This is a pre-kindergarten class for 4 to 5 year olds.  The intern from Cabrillo was doing a circle time before the snack time.  Baby carrots were so sweet and flavorful, weren’t they?  On the writing wall, we found the writings starting with “My favorite bug is …”  For example, “My favorite bug is a spider because they are the coolest and he crawls on people.”  Ants, roly-polies, and ladybugs are everywhere, so children everywhere love bugs!

This is a class for the first graders.  Each class seems to have recess at a different time.  During recess the children can get outside and eat a mid-morning snack and play.  In Japan, we do have recess at elementary school but no eating snacks before lunch.  This class went to the art room to have an art lesson taught by the art teacher.  Some children painted freely and some tried to copy the images of pictures or paintings by artists.

This is the 2nd grade class.  The students observed during their reading.  The children were checking words in the worksheets and then playing spelling games online.  Some brave children talked to Bunkyo students.  I was not able to hear what they talked about but they managed to communicate with them!

This is the 3rd grade class.  They were at “Daily 5 rotation 1: Read to self, Buddy reading, Listening to reading, Word work, and Work on writing.  One boy explained about what he has to do in “Word Work.”  Also a girl who was assigned in the “Buddy reading” read a book to a Bunkyo student.  As seen in the last photo, he blended in the group of 3rd grade boys so well, I didn’t recognize him!
