The Graduate School of Foreign Studies was established on the principle of "co-existence," which the University has consistently adhered to since its start. The School focuses primarily on promoting learning and understanding that is essential for the coexistence of different cultures and ethnic groups from a broad perspective. Guided by the rationale that effective communication skills using English as an international language are necessary for the co-existence of all people, we strive to develop human resources with advanced English communication skills. At the same time, we apply academic research related to areas such as the advanced training of elementary school and junior high school English teachers using these advanced English skills. In this manner, we strive to cultivate people who can contribute to the co-existence of humankind and thereby make meaningful contributions as members of the international community.
Taking a systematic approach toward English language education, the School undertakes research and development of English education systems. These initiatives encompass effective methods of teaching and learning based on behavioral and cognitive sciences, the study and application of educational materials, self-learning through CALL (computer-assisted language learning) and e-learning techniques; all with the aim of creating an English education program offering continuity from childhood through to becoming a full-fledged member of society. Additionally, the School strives to raise the level of students' expressive techniques across a wide range of media in line with our focus on nurturing communication skills for receiving and transmitting information internationally in specialized fields that use multimedia information processing and information systems. |
